What's the deal with Breakfast?

Breakfast is severely underrated and constantly overlooked. So many kids decide to pass it up and just go on with their day. But why pass up breakfast? Johns Hopkins School of Public Health says, "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast provides you with energy and nutrients that lead to increased concentration in the classroom." Yes, dinner is not the most important meal of the day and not lunch either. It's breakfast! It is essential to eat breakfast to start the day off right. Kids are always looking for help in the classroom and breakfast is an excellent source. If it means waking up 10-15 minutes earlier so that you can make yourself a healthy breakfast, I strongly suggest you do it. Think about it. Those 10 minutes of extra sleep may give you 15 extra minutes of energy, but breakfast gives you energy that can sustain you throughout the start of your day. Through research, the CDC suggests that not having breakfast can affect children's intellectual performance.

Alright so you might not have time in the morning to whip up an omelet and make a 5-star breakfast, but there are many things you can eat that don't require a lot of prep time:
  • fruit
  • yogurt
  • whole grain breakfast bars or muffins
  • oatmeal

A glass of orange juice or milk is another great choice to have a healthy breakfast.

So tomorrow when you wake up, good have yourself a healthy breakfast. You got a lot to gain and nothing to lose.
